If you want to stay in a central location in Bournemouth but combine this with a taste of beachside living, the Ullswater Hotel in the town’s popular West Cliff area fits the bill. The hotel is just 150 yards from the clifftop just west of Bournemouth’s iconic pier, offeing views out across to the pretty Purbecks. It’s also just a short stroll to the Bournemouth International Centre if you’re planning to attend an event or catch a show, not far from the Commercial Road high street and cosmopolitan Triangle district of town.
The hotel itself is tucked down a quiet side road with first-come, first-served public parking available for £10 per day. Local roadside parking is also available. The Ullswater offers 42 light and airy bedrooms all en-suite, plus digital flatscreen television, hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities. There is a mix of accommodation available; family, double, twin and single rooms, you can hire a cot and ‘Z’ beds are available on request. If you’re travelling on business or like to stay connected, there is free WiFi throughout the hotel, not just in the bedrooms. There is a lift to all floors and the third floor is totally flat, with no stairs or steps.
Dining pleasure
The Ullswater’s restaurant is open to guests and visitors and boasts an extensive food menu and wine list. The hotel chefs have created a tempting menu which blends traditional English dishes with continental cuisine using fresh, seasonal ingredients. You can enjoy a four-course evening meal and Viennese coffee for just £15.95 per head, £10 for children, and the hotel can cater for special dietary requirements and it has an extensive vegetarian menu. Breakfast can be served in your room on request and there’s a snack bar if you want to grab a quick bite before heading back to the beach.
If you have had a long day out and about and don’t want to venture too far, The Ullswater offers plenty of cosy and inviting places for you to unwind. Take a glass of wine out to the suntrap of a garden or catch up with friends while relaxing in the bar and lounge area. Perhaps you’d like an impromptu spot of snooker or darts, a family board game or to lose yourself in a book from the library? If you enjoy organised entertainment, The Ullswater hosts a variety of performers at least two nights a week, with 5-7 nights of entertainment a week between October and April.
Activity breaks
If you’re a fan of a particular sport or activity, The Ullswater offers a wide variety of holidays ranging from crown green bowling breaks to murder mystery weekends and, of course, the popular turkey and tinsel Christmas break. Check out the frequent special offers on the website – the hotel often runs generous deals like a free Sunday roast dinner with every weekend break.
The Ullswater offers a variety of services to make your stay comfortable and convenient. You are welcome to check in any time between 2pm and 10pm and check-out is 7.30am to 11am. After you’ve checked out, you can store your luggage in the hotel while you go and have one last stroll along the beach.
If you’re here on business you might use the fax / photocopying and dry cleaning services or perhaps book the meeting or banquet facilities to host a corporate away-day or meeting. Why not book a packed lunch you can take with you on your next excursion, or send the kids’ sea-soaked clothes to the laundry so they can do it all again tomorrow! The Ullswater also runs a babysitting service if you want a night off to see another side of the town. And your faithful pet Rover is welcome to stay too, for a surcharge of £10 per dog per night.
