If you’re still lamenting the loss of Westover Ice Rink back in 1991 or the closure of Ice Trax, Tower Park in 1996 then you must be one of the many people itching to get their skates back on each year when the ice returns to town.
Ice SKATE Bournemouth is the popular outdoor rink which sits pride of place in the town’s Lower Gardens. It made a return on Thursday 16 November 2017 and it’s bigger than ever on a new pitch where the Bournemouth Balloon used to be. You’ve got just under seven weeks of skating on this real ice pad, which closes on 2 January 2018.
The ice rink’s arrival really signals the advent of Christmas as it’s always beautifully lit up with twinkling lights -particularly beautiful after dark. New for 2017 is a separate child-friendly ice rink, Rinky Dinks, where tiny tots can safely play on the ice away from the bigger kids. Come the evening and this rink transforms into Gliders, a dedicated ice bowling rink – the first in the UK.
If skating’s not your thing or you need a bit of a warmer after spending more time swimming than skating then head to Moguls Bar, a lovely warm Alpine bar retreat serving mulled wine and steamy hot chocolates to your cosy armchair while you gaze out at everyone still on the ice. The booking system is open now so make sure you reserve a session before your choice of session fills up.
