If you’re a fan of a flan, passionate about Pavlova or batty about a good old Victoria sponge, were your napkins at the ready for the Saxon Square Summer Bake Off in summer 2017! This event, in the heart of Christchurch, followed the favourite format of the popular television programme, with all proceeds from cakes sold going to Julia’s House Children’s Hospice.
In the first round, the shops and cafes around the Square battled it out with the signature bake, entering their cakes and sweet treats for judging by a Paul Hollywood lookalike at around midday! The technical bake then welcomed grown-ups to unleash their piping Picasso in a cupcake decorating workshop.
Finally, the showstopper bake invited children to take part in an afternoon tea making workshop, assembling dainty sandwiches and devilish scones and decorating cupcakes to take home and enjoy (unless they happen to disappear sooner!)
Whether you’re an aspiring Mary Berry or more like Mel and Sue, what a great occasion for an afternoon treat. And being in July let’s hope there’s not a soggy bottom in sight!
