The music of British rock band Queen is incredibly symphonic by nature. So, imagining how it could be performed by the incredible Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is not a difficult feat. Part of summer 2017’s BSO Proms in the Park event at Meyrick Park, the Queen Symphonic Spectacular, conducted by Pete Harrison, combined the mastery of the town’s complete professional orchestra with a full rock band and stars from the West End musical We Will Rock You to perform all the band’s iconic rock songs from across the decades.
Imagine the legendary instrumentals of Bohemian Rhapsody, We are the Champions and Don’t Stop Me Now ringing out across the park enhanced by the melodic tones of the BSO. The musical extravaganza is heightened further by the popular son et lumiere show of lasers, lights, flames and fireworks choreographed to their very own soundtrack.
This amazing celebration of Queen’s iconic rock songs was first performed at Meyrick Park a decade ago and is still delighting rock fans and classical music aficionados in equal measures.
