Ever wondered what Bournemouth beach would look like if you approached it head-on suspended up high from out to sea? After the ultimate hit of bracing sea air? Don’t fancy the walk back down Bournemouth’s 1000-foot pier? Once you spot the PierZip you’ll soon come up with a good reason to give it a go!
The world’s first pier-to-beach zip wire fly-surfs you from the top of a zip tower at the end of the pier all the way back to Bournemouth’s golden sand in a thrilling 30-second flight across the waves. If you can egg on a friend, you can each take a separate line and race each other back to dry land!
Managed by RockReef – the indoor activity centre in the old Pier Theatre building, the PierZip is popular with kids and grown-ups alike – attracting birthday gatherings, stag and hen parties and corporate dos as well as curious customers who can’t resist an impulse booking when they catch sight of the ride from the beach or pier.
The attraction is open 10am to 5pm on weekends and 10am to 4pm during the school holidays. Riders must be at least 1.3 metres tall and age 6 or above and should weigh between 30 and 110kg to take part for safety reasons. The price includes a thorough and comprehensive safety briefing, which takes the time spent here up to 30 minutes. Once you’re fully kitted up there’s nothing more to do than climb 18 metres (60 feet) up the launch tower over the crashing waves below, wait your turn and take the leap…
The ride whisks you through the air, skimming the tops of the waves and well onto the beach. You travel 250 metres (820 feet) in just 30 seconds, making for a thrilling and unforgettable ride. For another £10 you can opt to take a second ride straight afterwards – perhaps this time with your eyes open or filming the action as you go!
