If you’re looking for a beachside retreat that celebrates everything about living by the sea, Bournemouth’s Ocean Beach hotel may well be the choice for you. Part of the town’s popular Oceana Resort, the Ocean Beach (formerly known as the Cliffeside) is perched on the town’s prestigious East Cliff, just a two-minute stroll down to the sand and minutes from the iconic Bournemouth Pier and Gardens.
Getting to the Ocean Beach is a breeze. It’s situated on East Overcliff Drive, less than a mile from the town’s main train and bus station and six miles from Bournemouth Airport. If you’re coming by car, there is free parking (unreserved, first come first served) at the Ocean Beach and its sister resorts the Suncliff, the Cumberland and the Hotel Royale. There are also metered parking spaces along the immediate roads.
Make yourself at home
The Ocean Beach has 64 bedrooms, many of them with sea views, a mixture of budget, single bed ‘crash-pads,’ cosy doubles and family rooms, plus sumptuous seafront penthouses to suit the reason for your stay, your party group and your budget. There is a lift to all floors if mobility is an issue but you still want the highest possible vantage point for unrestricted sea views.
The standard bedrooms have a double or twin beds and are decorated in contemporary beach style. They are ensuite with a shower over bath or walk-in shower and complimentary toiletries. All bedrooms have an LCD Freeview television, direct dial telephone, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities and a work desk (not available in all single rooms). The standard family bedrooms are designed to accommodate two adults plus one or two children and have one double and one single bed or a double and bunkbeds.
Luxury or budget?
If guaranteed sea views are one of the main draws for your Bournemouth stay, book an ocean front double, twin or family (two adults, two children) room. For an even more luxurious stay, choose an Ocean Beach premium sea view bedroom.
Staying in Bournemouth on a budget? The Ocean Beach has a range of economy rooms, which provide more basic accommodation but still offer same access to its luxurious facilities and service. The economy doubles are slightly smaller than the standard double rooms but have the same amenities as all other rooms.
If you’re travelling alone, the Ocean Beach can also offer single bedrooms designed for the solo traveller looking for a budget stay in comfortable surroundings.
You can check in to the Ocean Beach Hotel from 2:30pm and check out any time between 7:30 and 11am. Children of all ages are welcome to stay and under 2s can stay in a cot or crib for an additional £6 per night. If you’re planning to bring your pooch, please note that the hotel only permits small dogs strictly under 10kg and only one pet per room unless otherwise approved by management. Owners must sign a pet bond on check-in and there is a charge. Cats are not welcome to stay at this hotel.
Taste of Italy
The Ocean Beach is home to the popular Italian Café, which is open to residents and the general public. If the weather is fine, take a seat on the terrace for a pleasant sea breeze to go with your panoramic ocean views. The restaurant offers informal dining and delicious home-made dishes including pizza, pasta, paninis and boards freshly created by the Italian chef. The Italian Café is open daily from 12pm until 9pm (10pm Fridays and Saturdays).
Perhaps you’d like an Italian Café snack in the first floor Lounge Bar? Here you can enjoy a glass of wine from the first-floor terrace balcony while ordering a freshly made sandwich, panini or Piadina Italian flatbread any time from midday to 6pm. You can also enjoy an indulgent afternoon tea while you watch the waves.
The Atlantic Restaurant
Book a table at the ocean-themed Atlantic Restaurant for breakfast or dinner in a fresh and relaxing environment. Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 9:30am weekdays and 8 to 10am on weekends and bank holidays with a choice of full English or continental items plus specials including eggs benedict and smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.
Make reservations at the Ocean Beach for dinner from 6:30 to 8:30pm and enjoy a three-course house menu plus coffee. The sample menu features starters like duck liver pate and whitebait, mouth-watering mains such as roasted loin of pork with all the trimmings and Ocean Beach grill steaks. Why not follow with an indulgent apple crumble or chocolate fudge cake?
At your leisure
While the Ocean Beach is so close to Bournemouth beach and promenade, there may still be times when you want to use some indoor leisure facilities. Fortunately, you don’t have to travel far, as the Ocean Beach itself has a host of amenities including an outdoor solar-heated swimming pool and the Asian-inspired Oceana Day Spa, which offers a full portfolio of massages and spa treatments for pampering, cleansing, moisturising, revitalising or anti-ageing, plus a range of beauty and nail treatments.
There is also a beauty / barber shop on the complex. Guests are also welcome to use the facilities at the other hotels in the Oceana Resort Group too including the neighbouring Suncliff Hotel with its indoor pool, sauna, mini gym and tournament-size squash courts.
The Ocean Beach Hotel has a wide selection of flexible conference, banqueting and meeting facilities for all types of business events, whether you’re running a recruitment day, residential training course, board meeting, staff away-day, product launch or awards ceremony. The conference suites can accommodate anything from two to 150 delegates and they offer free on-site parking and WiFi throughout the venue. You can also request use of a fax and photocopier and guests staying overnight can set up their own hot desk in their room with work desk and free internet.

If you’ve always dreamed of a blissful beachfront wedding, The Ocean Beach can make that dream a reality with dedicated wedding planners on hand to help you put together your perfect big day. The front desk is manned 24/7, meaning there’s always someone on hand for recommendations or assistance. Phone down to book a table for dinner or breakfast in your room or 24-hour room service. Perhaps you need some laundry or dry cleaning ahead of a big occasion or you’d like a packed lunch or newspaper.
