Formerly known as the Opera House and the Academy, the O2 Academy modestly nestled along Boscombe’s somewhat unassuming high street has been a staple on the Bournemouth nightclub scene since its doors first opened in 1895 as the Boscombe Grand Theatre. Since then it’s been avenue for singing, dancing, comedies and musicals. A dance hall, a nightclub and concert venue. The stage has been trodden to no less than Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and David Bowie over the years and it’s kept up with musical trends – becoming immersed in the ’90s rave culture and spawning the global Slinky club night. Its welcome into the O2 fold in 2009 has seen the now O2 Academy attract a brand new generation of fans and performers.
