Just a couple of miles north of Wimborne, the Honeybrook Family Farm and Riverside Park is packed with rural attractions for the whole family, spread out over a vast 84-acre estate. Honeybrook started out as a traditional farm and has grown extensively in recent years to offer a packed day out for visitors of all ages. Come and meet the friendly farm animals, take a stroll over the pretty riverside meadows and go bird and brown trout spotting along the winding River Allen.
Come and meet the friendly sheep, pigs and cows in the farmyard while flocks of cheeky chickens peck around clearing up your lunch crumbs! Honeybrook has a cosy pets corner, with cuddly guinea pigs and rabbits keen for your attention. In the main farmyard you can peep into the pens at the pigs, calves and goats and visit the “Chicken Hilton,” where you’ll find many more of the farm’s inquisitive fowls! Take a stroll out to the stables to inspect some of Honeybrook’s magnificent horses. You can groom them and even take one for a ride (£extra).
Keep an eye out for feeding times, when you can help bottle-feed some of the farm’s youngest animals and groom and feed some of the farmyard’s furry residents. The milking parlour is always fascinating if you’re curious to see how Honeybrook staff collect milk from their herd of cows. The friendly rangers are always happy to answer questions and explain the traditional farming practices. Honeybrook is a working farm so you’ll find plenty of opportunities to get stuck in!
Outside of the main farmyard there are plenty more animals to enjoy. Take a walk around the sweeping meadows (or catch a tractor ride if you want to save your legs) and discover the inhabitants of pretty rural addresses including Honeybrook Close and Springbrook Close, Bridge Mead and Stanbridge Pasture. You’ll spot ponies and cows, donkeys, sheep and much more on your tour around Honeybrook’s estate. Explore the wildlife around Charlie’s Pond, which sits close to the river and meet the slimy residents of the Frog Pond too.
Take a Bite
Besides the countless activities and attractions enticing you to while away your day, the abundance of delicious meals and snacks makes it easy to spend time at Honeybrook. The hilariously-monikered Wonky Goose Café in the main farmyard serves up a selection of sandwiches, cakes and home-cooked comforting meals like lasagne and chilli. If you’re visiting in warmer weather, why not pop into Mrs Swirly’s ice cream parlour and plump for a fresh scoop or two?
If you fancy a hot drink or delicious cake while sunning yourself on the patio, you’ll find a tempting selection of treats in the Farm House Tea Rooms. If you prefer to take a picnic, there are plenty of places to set up your al fresco feast – why not pull up a picnic table in the courtyard or park your blanket in the heart of the village green? Fancy taking home some of the farm’s own produce? Then head three minutes down the road to Honeybrook’s High Lea Farm for your steaks, sausages, lamb, bacon and poultry, eggs, barbecue packs and more.
Room to Run
Although you could spend the day meandering your way around Honeybrook with more than enough to keep you entertained, sometimes the kids just need to run off some steam. If this is the case, take a pit-stop in the large children’s adventure playground. They can climb up and slide down a giant Trojan horse, ride the Flying Fox zip-wire and scale the soaring Buccaneer Towers. The whole park is set in sand to ensure an inevitable soft landing! Elsewhere on the site the kids will discover another playground with a little neighbourhood of playhouses, an indoor soft play centre, splash pad water-play area and fun bouncy pillow.
Acres of Holiday Activities
Honeybrook Farm is open on weekends and every day over the school holidays. But if you want to sign your troops up to something more structured, why not check out the programme of wild skill days in the Farm’s river meadows, woods and countryside (ages 7+)? Honeybrook’s knowledgeable rangers are on-hand to teach vital outdoors survival skills like lighting fires, building shelter and even foraging for food, plus how to follow tracks, navigate off the beaten track, make knots and other construction techniques.
If you’re an animal or countryside lover looking for an unique backdrop for your wedding, birthday, a corporate do or any other celebration for that matter, Honeybrook Farm is more than set up to help you throw an unforgettable function. Take the party out to the Great Barn and Orchard for beautiful views across the countryside and river meadows. Honeybrook boasts a range of settings, from intimate ceremony rooms to an enchanting stone circle ready to make your special day.
