If you’re flying from or into Bournemouth Airport, Heronshaw House in the village of Hurn (Christchurch borough) is a convenient place for you to stay. It’s bursting with all the character and charm you would expect from a 17th century stone-built farmhouse but is certainly not your typical airport hotel.
Town and country
Heronshaw is situated on Hurn Court Lane just half a mile from Bournemouth International along a peaceful country road and set on traditional farmland. While it may occupy a rural location Heronshaw is still only six miles from Bournemouth Town Centre and just over five from the nearest beach at Southbourne. It’s six miles from Bournemouth Train and Bus Station and four from the nearest town, Christchurch, so if you want to set down your bags and start exploring nowhere is too far a distance to travel.
If you’re driving here, Heronshaw House offers free parking at the property for all residents during their stay and a very reasonable £5 per day rate airport parking so you don’t have to worry about your wheels while you’re on holiday. Speak to staff about the airport shuttle service and start your holiday hassle-free.
Convenient location
Heronshaw House could never be badged an ‘airport hotel’. It may be the closest accommodation to BOH, but its central and connected location makes it a popular choice for family gatherings, couples and people travelling for work or pleasure. It also provides accommodation for popular Georgian wedding venue Parley Manor, nearby wedding and events venue Sopley Mill and various equestrian centres in the close vicinity.
Four farmhouse bedrooms
There are four bedrooms at Heronshaw House, all on the first floor with peaceful countryside or courtyard views. There are three doubles and one single room, all en-suite and decorated in country-house style with large walk-in power showers, luxury toiletries and free WiFi in the bedrooms and throughout the property.
The guest bedrooms also have a desk and tea and coffee making facilities to make you feel at home whether you’re jetting off the next day, checking in for a week near the sea or staying on local business. Check-in is between 4pm and 6pm and you can check out any time before 10am on the final day of your stay.
Bed and Breakfast
The price of your stay is for the room only but you can add £10 per person for B&B accommodation. Breakfast is served in Trout Dining Room and includes Dorset cereals, fresh fruits, yoghurts and a Full English or you can pay £7.50 for the continental option – either way guaranteed to set you up for whatever the day has in store for you.
If you have any special dietary requirements please contact Heronshaw in advance as they can provide menus for most restrictions with prior notice. If you are part of a group and would like a home-cooked dinner on top of the standard bed and breakfast, please speak to the hotel when making your booking.
Social spaces
Besides its four spacious, yet cosy bedrooms Heronshaw House has several public spaces where you can meet up with friends or just relax in the company of other residents. The guest’s drawing room is a quiet and welcoming space to enjoy with a cool drink and a good book to take a break from the summer sun and it’s warm and cosy with a crackling open fire in the winter months.
If the weather is fine, Heronshaw House also has a pretty garden where you can sit out and enjoy the evening sunshine or early morning rays. Come and sit out on the lawn, gaze over the vegetable and herb gardens, admire the flourishing fruit trees and vibrant flowerbeds and enjoy endless rural views that stretch right down to the River Stour.
Dog-friendly accommodation
Don’t forget your four-legged friend (unless you’re jetting out of the country of course!) Heronshaw House is happy to welcome well-behaved dogs to stay by prior arrangement. There are many places you can find to walk Fido around the diverse local landscape, with the New Forest, dog-friendly beaches, welcoming country parks and winding river walks all closeby. Guests are asked to keep their dog on a lead whenever they are outside your room and they must not be left unaccompanied if you are away from the hotel.
A note about accessibility
Heronshaw House was originally built as a traditional farmhouse and, as such, is irregular in design with charming but inconsistent door widths, steep staircases and uneven floors, about which guests with mobility difficulties should particularly be aware. All of the bedrooms are on the first floor of the building, with the snug, reception, drawing room and conference room at ground level.
Your business event
Heronshaw House is a popular venue for meetings and conferences, which are held in a dedicated room on the ground floor of the hotel. WiFi access is available throughout the premises and various business and admin services and equipment can be provided on request.
