There’s no better beach snack than a piping-hot serving of classic British fish and chips. Watching the waves as you scoop up your favourite type of battered fillet and crispy-yet-fluffy chips with a side of mushy peas, a slather of vinegar and a sprinkle of salt is endlessly satisfying, whether you’re sat in the sun with your feet in the sand or wrapped up warm watching the waves crash in a storm.
Endless sea views
Being a well-established seaside town and popular holiday retreat, it’s no surprise to find fish and chip maestro Harry Ramsden’s sitting pride of place right on the famous promenade at Bournemouth pier and beach.
The venue stretches over two floors – a restaurant upstairs with large windows and a spacious terrace offering endless sea views and an old-school chip shop and café on street level
The Bournemouth branch of Harry Ramsden’s was established almost 20 years ago, and is the restaurant group’s flagship venue in the south. Extending to over 15,000 square feet with seating for 417 diners, it’s actually the Largest Fish and Chip Restaurant in the World! The restaurant occupies the first floor of this striking venue and offers air conditioned indoor and comfortable outdoor terrace dining to suit your party and, of course, the weather!
Fish, chips and more
The signature dish here has to be a piping hot plate of fish and chips, coated with Harry’s original secret recipe batter, accompanied by freshly cut, double-cooked chips made from British potatoes.
Choose from cod, haddock, smoked haddock or plaice; perhaps some Scottish wholetail scampi or a jumbo battered pork sausage. If you want a lighter meal, you can always plump for poached fish and a side salad rather than the battered option. If you’re simply not in the mood for fish, there are lots of other options to tempt your tastebuds here too.
Perhaps you’d rather keep it light in the blazing hot weather with a colourful salad, mix it up with a speciality burger or try a tasty chicken dish for a change? Have you discovered Harry’s British pies? Baked in the oven and with a variety of fillings, it makes the ultimate hearty meal on a brisk day at the beach. Make sure you ask about the free chip refill offer – available on all meals with chips!
Room for three courses?
Why not go the whole hog and discover just what a fish and chip restaurant can offer as a starter and dessert?! Perhaps you’re a fan of an old-school prawn cocktail or you fancy some popcorn fish. You could steer away from a seafood starter with a crispy brie in breadcrumbs or a hearty bowl of seasonal vegetable soup served with a tasty slice of rustic bread.
And if there’s still room for dessert you can follow your meal with a selection of traditional Great British favourites including Knickerblocker Glories and Banana Splits! Harry’s has a variety of drinks for you to enjoy with your meal too, from teas and coffees to fizz, soft drinks, wine, beer, spirits and cider! They really do cater for all tastes here!
Something for smaller appetites
If you’ve brought the whole family along, there are a range of lighter bites exclusively designed for children to enjoy the taste of Harry Ramsden’s. Perhaps they’d love a portion of fun Fish Bites, Chicken Chunks or Mac and Cheese Melts with Harry’s famous twice-cooked chips and lashings of baked beans?
Traditional chippy
If you can’t bear to be parted from the beach for too long, why not pop into Harry Ramsden’s café on street level, a traditional-styled chippy with the menu up on chalkboards and stop-in seating if you don’t want to make a song and dance about this seaside staple. Alternatively, ask for it wrapped up and take a pew on the prom – a particular favourite pastime for locals during the summer-long Friday Night Fireworks displays.
Harry Ramsden’s Bournemouth is open seven days a week for lunch, snacks, dinners and desserts. The restaurant is open during winter months from 11:30am to 9pm Mondays to Fridays and between 9am and 9pm Saturdays and Sundays. From Easter until the end of summer it opens 11:30am to 9pm during the week and 9am to 10pm at weekends.
Fish and chips to go
If you want to take the taste of Harry Ramsden’s down to your beach hut or home to enjoy, the takeaway serves up this seaside favourite for lunch and dinner between 11:30am and 8pm every day of the week during the winter. From Easter and throughout the summer the takeaway is open from 11am to 9pm, ideal for long lazy days spent on the beach or warm summer evenings enjoying the entertainment at The Waterfront and Pier Approach nearby.
With disabled access, baby changing facilities, wheelchair and pram stations and free WiFi for all, Harry Ramsden’s Bournemouth is ready with a warm welcome for your whole party. So, take a look at the menu, reserve your table or grab your towels and get ready to experience the ultimate beach picnic.
