Steam engines, traction engines, turbines rollers – if it runs on steam you’ll find it on show at the spectacular Great Dorset Steam Fair in the fittingly rustic setting of South Down, Tarrant Hinton in Blandford Forum.
Dubbed ‘The National Heritage Show,’ it welcomes the best of British industry from across the ages, with heavy horses, heavy haulage, vintage cars, trains and motorcycles and military vehicles all on display. The Steam Fair promotes all the charms of rural life, with gundog demonstrations, falconry and axe men displays.
It’s also a thriving marketplace with an average 3000 stalls and exhibits showing local produce and crafts, plus a shopping marquee, an auto jumble and specialist areas for tractor, horse and camping wares.
2018 sees the 50th Great Dorset Steam Fair, with an incredible 500 full-size steam engines on display plus a live music festival, steam exhibitions and demonstration, entertainment and variety shows and a whole host of cuisine to enjoy throughout the venue including the food hall marquees. There are single day tickets, 3, 4 and 5 day tickets plus camping if you want to stay and immerse yourself in this unique and fascinating event.
