If your ideal night out always involves a good giggle, it’s time to check out Bournemouth’s Coastal Comedy. This monthly stand-up comedy show, held at Hotel Celebrity in Bournemouth as well as Poole Lighthouse and various venues in Lymington and Southampton, lines up three professional comedians in a hilarious evening of anecdotes, jokes and one-liners.
April 2018 sees this successful show celebrate its third birthday with an all-star line-up you wouldn’t want to miss. The headliner is the hilarious Rob Deering, a familiar face from various television appearances including Comedy Rocks with Jason Manford, The Weakest Link Comedians’ Special and he was also the winner of Celebrity Mastermind. Deering’s set is a musical extravaganza featuring guitar, a loop pedal and his own dulcet tones to tunefully deliver gag after gag to a rock and pop soundscape!
Welsh comic Phil Cooper opens the show with his trademark line of smart jokes and storytelling talent. You might recognise him from ‘So You Think You’re Funny’ and as a BBC New Act semi-finalist.
Another talent soaring on the Coastal Comedy wave this month is Andy Field, winner of the Chortle Student Comedy Award for his fresh and unique take on stand-up. The show is hosted as always by the vibrant and hilarious local comic Adrienne Coles.
If you can’t catch this one, they’re at it all over again on Friday 25 May with TV Headliner and Britain’s Got Talent treasure “This is a musical” Jonny Awsum.
Coastal Comedy’s headline act is always a big name, often from a popular, current television panel show such as Mock the Week, 8 out of 10 Cats or Live at the Apollo. The Hotel Celebrity venue gives visitors the chance to see the comedians up close and personal, with previous stand-ups to headline including Zoe Lyons, Angela Barnes, Jarred Christmas, Joel Dommett, Ed Gamble and Bob Mills.
The event is strictly over 18s and tickets are £15 in advance, £20 on the door. The doors open at 7:15pm and the show kicks off at 8:30pm. So, if you’re looking for a different night out for a birthday or after work drinks or you’re a comedy fan relishing the chance to see some big names away from the big arenas, Coastal Comedy is just the ticket.
