The Cliff House Hotel is a well-groomed, boutique establishment set in the popular Southbourne area of the town. Despite its close proximity to the centre of town it’s a tranquil and relaxing haven with 14 well-appointed and individually designed bedrooms.
Southbourne is just a 15-minute drive from Bournemouth Square and three miles from the town’s main train and bus station. Bournemouth Airport is five miles away and if you’re driving here there is free parking on site. Visitors for Bournemouth International Centre and Pavilion are just four miles away and the main Bournemouth Beach and Pier three and a half. Southbourne beach and its pretty clifftop pubs and restaurants is just a five-minute stroll from the Cliff House Hotel and Southbourne itself has a popular parade of shops, bars and eateries.
A Victorian venue
The Cliff House Hotel was established in the 1880s and combines Victorian charm with modern amenities and comfort. The 14 bedrooms each have bespoke furniture to create a boutique design yet reflect the historic charm and character of this 19th century former homestead and school. There are three types of room available; Superior (Non-Garden View), Premium (Garden View) and Premium Plus (Garden View). Premium Plus rooms include a separate bath and shower, bathrobes, trouser press and truffles on arrival.
Check-in is from 2:30pm and you can check out any time up to 11am. Every guestroom has an ensuite shower with complimentary toiletries and hairdryer plus smart television, writing desk and stationery, iron and board, luggage rack and safe, tea making facilities, a Nespresso coffee machine and biscuits. WiFi is free and accessible in all parts of the hotel – ideal if you’re travelling on business or you just like to stay in touch. Children of all ages are welcome to stay at the Cliff House. Under 2s stay free of charge in a children’s cot for under 12s it’s just £20 per night if an extra bed is needed. Pets cannot be accommodated so please leave Fido at home.
Accessible to all
Assistance and guide dogs are, of course, welcome and guests with mobility or access needs can stay in one of the four ground floor bedrooms, one of which is equipped for wheelchair access. All the ground floor public areas are level and accessible from the car park including the garden terrace. There are also fully equipped disabled toilet facilities on the ground floor for residents and guests.
The Cliff House Hotel is a relaxing venue with landscaped gardens and a warm terrace where you can sit with a drink and a good book and just enjoy some peace and quiet.
The Cliff House is open for residents and non-residents to dine. A full Dorset (English) breakfast is served at The Cliff House each morning from 7:30 to 9:30am on weekdays and 8:30 to 10am weekends along with your choice of cooked options such as smoked salmon with scrambled eggs or seasonal mushrooms on toast. If you want something lighter help yourself to the Continental breakfast buffet, with fresh pastries, cold meats, Dorset cereals and yoghurts.
If you’re feeling peckish during the day, check out the Bar 13 menu for a selection of salads, sandwiches and baguettes, soups, tapas and mezze boards available from 11am to 2pm and from 6 to 9pm Tuesday to Saturday. Plus a selection of classics including burgers, sausage and mash and fish and chips.
You can also enjoy a range of cream teas or afternoon teas with a selection daily-baked scones, cakes and sandwiches (gluten free and champagne teas available).
Sunday lunch is served each week from 12 noon to 2pm over two or three courses. Tempting starters include Pressed Citrus Crab with a herb coulis while the mains feature roast leg of lamb, confit salmon fillet, roast sirloin of beef and Portobello mushroom Wellington with seasonal vegetable risotto. If you’ve still got space why not squeeze in an Earl Grey crème brulee or caramelised apples, pain perdu and cider caramel?
If you’re staying at The Cliff House for business there’s plenty of facilities to give you a professional and comfortable working space. There is a work desk in the bedrooms, free WiFi in all parts of the hotel and fax and photocopying facilities available. The hotel also has meeting and banqueting facilities for hire if you want to host an event, recruitment, training or conference here. The Clifton conference suite provides a peaceful setting for your function, opening out onto the hotel’s beautiful gardens as a beautiful break-out space. The room is fitted with state-of-the-art presentation equipment and conference production support. There is also complimentary car parking available for your delegates.
