Burlington Arcade is conveniently situated between St Peter’s Road and Bournemouth’s main shopping parade Old Christchurch Road. This inconspicuous shopping space is home to a number of independent businesses – hidden treasures with their own local customer bases.
BHClinic.co.uk is based on the edge of St Peter’s Road. This health and beauty business specialises in laser treatments, body shaping and a variety of services including facials and dermal fillers. The laser treatments are performed using a Lumina machine and provide a variety of beauty services from permanent hair reduction to the removal of sun damage, age spots and stretch marks. An on-site Promax Lipo machine offers treatments for inch loss, cellulite reduction and skin tightening among many other cosmetic procedures. The Clinic’s Dr Haidar Hussan is a qualified dental surgeon and can transform your smile by fixing a gummy smile, offering lip augmentation and filling fine lines around the mouth.
Peaches Patisserie just next door is a popular destination for local workers wanting to grab a quick snack on their way in to the office or getting lunch to enjoy down in the Gardens. Peaches can prepare a variety of sandwiches, hot and cold food and does a mean trade in buffets too. The shop has been running for thirty years and clearly has a recipe for success with all-day breakfasts, salad boxes, paninis, toasties, wraps and jacket potatoes. They make every sandwich and snack to order so if you’re in a rush why not give them a call before the midday rush and grab your lunch at your convenience?
Next door again you get to Econatural Products and the clue’s in the name! The business specialises in natural, organic, vegan products such as soaps and lotions, make-up, cosmetics, dental care and baby products, in fact eco solutions for products used in everyday life. The shop has sourced products from all around the globe, with Russian cosmetics, Marseille soap, alum stone, cosmetic clay and Syrian Aleppo soap. It also uses eco or recycled packaging materials wherever possible.
On the other side of the arcade you’ll find popular Donaldson Locksmiths, which offers a variety of services including key cutting and shoe repairs. It also offers a local, mobile locksmith service to domestic and commercial customers throughout Bournemouth and the local area – whether you need to obtain immediate access, change your locks, upgrade or fit extra security or assistance with a lock problem. Perhaps you need urgent repairs after a burglary, you’ve snapped a key in the lock or you need a garage or outhouse secured. Donaldson also provides new UPVC window and door keys if yours have gone astray!
Italian ice creams
Cooking up a storm in Burlington Arcade is Giggi Geletaria ice cream parlour. This large restaurant occupying half the length of the arcade serves up a delicious variety of treats including milkshakes, waffles, paninis and coffees. The proprietor Luigi (Giggi) opened the business in 2008 and has other shops in Poole and in Swanage. Coming from Alezio in the south of Italy Giggi found all of his favourite Italian delicacies easy to find – with olives, olive oil, Parma ham, sun dried tomatos and Italian sausages in abundance.
But real home-made Italian ice cream was something he missed, so he and his brother set about opening a shop! They freshly make the ice cream every day on the premises using local dairy products and seasonal fruit. The frappe milkshakes are made using three scoops of your favourite Giggi ice cream whizzed together with milk. Speciality hot drinks include Italian Hot Chocolate imported in ten flavours directly to Giggi’s, a Marrakech double espresso with cinnamon syrup and the indulgent Amaretto Confusion!
Cuts, cards and chemist
Another locals’ favourite, Legends barbers, is a classy gents’ hairdressers offering beauty, cosmetic and personal care to help you look your best whether you want a classic short back and sides or something a little more cutting edge.
The Card Factory at the Old Christchurch Road end of the arcade is a popular cut-price card and gift shop. Pop in and browse through racks and racks of great deals on cards, keepsakes, gift bags, party accessories and everything that goes hand-in-hand with properly celebrating a special occasion. The one thing we can guarantee is that you won’t leave with just the one item you went in for! Whether a helium balloon, a calendar, a cuddly toy, novelty gift, stationery or glassware, there’s so much to snap up for a snip of the price.
On the opposite side of the arcade’s Old Christchurch Road entrance you’ll find a small and convenient branch of Boots the Chemist. While small in stature it manages to squeeze in countless lunch options, cosmetics and personal care items and a full pharmacy service too so there’s no need to stomp down through the Square to grab your prescription from the big store on Commercial Road.
