After the tri-mendous success of the inaugural British Beach Rugby tournament at Boscombe Beach in the summer of 2017 this exhilarating (and somewhat exfoliating!) event is coming back for more. Now an official part of the European Beach Rugby Association series you can expect some of the continent’s elite beach rugby 5s teams to be rubbing shoulders with our greatest home-grown talent.
The inaugural event 2017
Did you join the scrum on Boscombe beach on the 17th June 2017 at Britain’s very first Beach 5s international rugby tournament?
Twenty men’s and ladies teams battled on the beach in this full-contact, full-day event. The rules differ from traditional rugby in that when the ball carrier has contact with or is tackled by an opponent they must pass or release the ball within two seconds – making for a fast and thrilling match.
This family event also featured a beach festival and party so there was plenty to keep all ages occupied with a charity rugby game, food and refreshments too. British Beach Rugby’s charity partner Brainstrust was there to support event organiser Barty Hills and his family during his brain tumour treatment and recovery and proceeds raised went to this deserving cause.
Beach rugby has been a hit across Europe for two decades but Boscombe was the venue chosen to bring it to Britain. Let’s Get Sandy!
