Bournemouth is internationally known for its beaches, beautiful gardens and bountiful options for great days and nights out. And also for its bowls! If you’ve not tried this friendly and fun activity yet, what better time than in the Bournemouth Open Bowls Tournament’s centenary year?
The landmark event, held at Southbourne Bowling Club, ran from Sunday 6 to Saturday 12 August 2017, welcoming hundreds of competitors from all over the United Kingdom keen to be crowned champion of one of the longest-established bowls tournaments on the circuit. The healthy prize pot spilled over with an impressive £10,000 to be shared between the men’s singles, men’s pairs, men’s triples, mixed pairs, ladies singles, ladies pairs and ladies triples events.
If you’ve never tried this inclusive sport, this annual event offers bowls coaching, bowls and shoe hire and new players are always welcome. Their motto? “The competition is always fierce, but the atmosphere is always friendly!”
A number of local hotels play host to bowls teams year after year by the coachload including the Arlington and the Whitehall, which are both owned by tournament sponsor Bowlaway.
