Little and big kids alike will delight in a day out at Adventure Wonderland. Tucked in a prime location opposite Bournemouth International Airport and just ten minutes from the town centre, this theme park does the Alice in Wonderland theme more than justice with over 30 rides and attractions for guests of all ages. Dare you brave the swinging boat or runaway train? Take a meander around the maze or head inside for a spot of Wild Thing soft play.
Keep your eye out for Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts et al around the park or see them perform in the daily show. Keep an eye on the website for special guest visitors like Paddington Bear, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Paw Patrol characters and seasonal celebrations including the Christmas panto and Santa’s grotto!
World of wonder
As soon as you step foot into the park you’re transported into a world of wonder, where your favourite storybook characters come to life and welcome you to their home. You’ll often spot Alice greeting children as they dash between the thrilling rides, perhaps you’ll find the White Rabbit in the maze or spy the Mad Hatter perched atop Alice’s giant chair. Listen carefully and you may hear the Queen of Heart’s bloodcurdling cry of “Off with your head” as you explore the park’s many attractions!
Something for all seasons
Adventure Wonderland is a year-round attraction with plenty to do and see inside and out. The Wild Thing soft play centre is open all through the winter season. This Aztec-themed, multi-level padded play zone is geared up for children of all ages through to teens, with a separate toddler area for under 3s. At the heart of the play centre is Montyzoomer’s Thunderdome, where you can fire balls from canons mounted on bamboo platforms – be careful, though, as Montyzoomer has been known to fight back!
The main theme park is open throughout every school holiday and each day from Easter through to the end of the summer. You’ll discover a range of attractions in keeping with the Alice in Wonderland theme in two outside zones; Adventureland and Wonderland.
Adventureland is a thrilling place to be – and the first you encounter on arrival at the park. Roll up for Wild Bill’s Runaway Train, spinning around the rickety track in a thrilling , head-spinning adventure. The Space Orbiter opposite is a fast-paced thriller while the Ghostly Galleon promises to rock you to oblivion. Grab a giant swing on the yo-yo ride and try your hand on the water wind-up, where you can challenge a friend in a gruelling battle of wits as you try to fill and spill buckets of water over each other! Get on board a battleboat and whizz around the water arena shooting water jets at the other riders or jump aboard a flying elephant for a jumbo’s-eye view of the park! Other attractions here include Bouncing Beans trampolines and the hair-raising Dragon’s Drop – a towering 20ft inflatable slide with attitude!
Just around the corner from Adventureland is Cuddle Corner Farm, and it certainly lives up to its name. This friendly petting zoo is home to a collection of fluffy animals, with bunny rabbits and guinea pigs through to donkeys, lambs, alpacas and pygmy goats all keen to meet you. It’s also home to a number of chickens and cockerels although they might find you first on one of their frequent wanders around the park!
If horses are more your style, why not hot-foot it across to Pony Palace? This friendly yard is home to Adventure Wonderland’s charming collection of miniature ponies just waiting for you to meet and groom. You can even take one for a ride (£2.50 charge applicable).
Wander through Wonderland
Once you’ve finished in Adventureland, you come to Wonderland, packed with activities and attractions again with an Alice in Wonderland twist. Head for the Happydrome theatre, where your favourite characters perform twice-daily pantomimes, magic and entertainment shows. Catch a curvy caterpillar ride, a turbo teacup (fresh from a tea party, perhaps?) or your choice of vehicle on the mini wheels roundabout. You can dig for gold (and prizes) fresh from the gold mine, brave the 28-foot Jabberwocky helter-skelter or put pedal to the metal at Charlie Cool’s Driving School.
Wonderland is also home to the thrilling Adventure Wonderland maze (the third largest in the UK) and the Cheshire Cat’s Castle of Adventure. If you’ve still got energy for climbing and sliding, why not take on the kids in the Caucus Race commando-style junior assault course?
Catch a ride on the Chattanooga Choo Choo and make like Alice in the Shrinking Mirror Hedge, complete with progressively smaller doorways and giant throne! If all this excitement finds you needing a change of pace, take a stroll around the fragrant herb garden. Other attractions here include the Wonderland Web climbing frames and airport viewing gallery for a great vantage over the neighbouring runway – ideal for the Air Festival Weekend.
