One of the South’s most glamourous sporting events returns to Sandbanks beach for the tenth year in a row this summer with the International Beach Polo Championships. Over the course of two days, spectators will enjoy high adrenaline polo and legendary beach parties on the world-class Sandbanks beach.
The festival site is a very grand affair, with polo arena, marquees, grandstand seating, food, bars and a retail village for visitors to explore and enjoy. If you want to get even closer to the action why not treat yourself to the luxury beach side hospitality and VIP marquees?
The event kicks off on Friday 7 July, with doors opening at midday. The first 2017 Championship polo match starts at 3pm, but by then the hospitality and festivities will be in full swing so get down there early and enjoy the occasion.
Battle on the beach
Beach polo is a fast and furious game on horseback, where teams battle to control an oversized orange polo ball at incredible speeds of up to 100mph. The players fight like gladiators in an enclosed arena while the ponies take full advantage of the acceleration and pace, the stopping and turning power given by the sand all with the incredible backdrop of the English Channel.
Saturday 8 July sees the culmination of the competition after the title battle at 6pm. On both evenings, when the polo finishes the lights go down and the music is cranked up for two nights of parties. The beach parties kick off at 7pm with top DJs entertaining the crowds who are ready to kick back after the day’s formalities. Mingle with the players, sponsors and celebrities as the music goes on until 1am.
While the ponies are enjoying a well-deserved break, The International Beach Polo event plays host to the 2017 International Beach Volleyball Championships. This popular spectacle, an Olympic Games sell-out, is given the most magnificent playing court of the white Sandbanks sand.
